BGET relies on volunteers in order to perform its work.
As of June 2009, 19 volunteers have worked with BGET! BGET has many projects occuring over the next year (solar, micro-hydro, bio-gas).
 
Currently BGET needs volunteers to participate in all project areas, as well as folks looking to teach English and basic electricity classes, work on our website, write articles, write grant proprosals, and generally engage in a wide range of capacity building efforts. Project introduction:
Countries served Thailand
Languages needed English or Thai. Knowledge of Burmese, Katchin or Karen is a plus.
Length of stay A minimum of several months
Expenses Free to join the project. No salary or stipend.
Activities Educational renewable energy workshops in rural Thailand. Providing technical support to communities, cooperatives, and small businesses interested in using renewable energy.

Requirements:
Cultural sensitivity, patience, hard working, and a willingness to actively engage with a wide range of people, cultures, and backrounds. A willingness to have fun.
Suggested classes and skills:

SEI workshops PV design & installation, Renewable Energy for Developing world, Micro-hydro power.
Familiar with PV, micro-hydro, and hybrid systems. Grid interconnection (especially for rotating generators), biomass and biogas.
General skills Familiarity with computers, well grounded in engineering principles and economics, sensitive to power relations among various groups, experience in fundraising and report writing, curriculum design, able to communicate across a variety of strata of society.
